First Roads and Trails Through The County
The Great Peace Conference was held near the site to become Norman in 1835 to establish better relations between the Osage, the Wichita, Comanche, and Kiowa Tribes, the first site was in the Cross Timbers.
The 1871 and 1872 survey of the County shows its route very accurately. This road ran from Fort Arbuckle south of the Canadian River, crossing the river at Johnson Crossing south of Wanette.
